Signal Read
Most organizations already pay to collect operational intelligence and then read it as compliance data. Digital adoption analytics, engagement survey free-text, service-desk tickets, audit findings, collaborative platform outputs: send us what you already have, and we read it as ethnographic evidence rather than adoption metrics. A 70% deviation rate is not an adoption problem to be fixed — it is the practice telling its designers something they did not know when they designed it. The deliverable is a short written report of what your existing instruments are telling you that your dashboard is not, and what would repay a closer look. No new instrumentation, no site visit, and no time from the teams whose data it reads. The natural first step toward Terrain Mapping.

Terrain Mapping / Research
Embedded organizational research into the operational terrain of a planned or in-progress transition: interviews, observational fieldwork, document analysis, and a closing synthesis with leadership. The deliverable is rigorous, grounded knowledge of how the organization actually works, produced as practice-based research rather than a predetermined diagnosis. What to do with what we find is yours to determine. It can stand alone, or lay the foundation for a deeper engagement.

Double Materiality Stakeholder Engagement
If you are in CSRD scope, you are required to engage stakeholders for your double materiality assessment. If you are not, your larger customers are, and their value-chain questions are arriving on your desk either way. In both cases the engagement is usually done badly: a survey, six interviews, a workshop nobody remembers. We design and facilitate the session itself, so that what comes back is something you did not already know and the engagement record holds up to an assurance provider. Where your value chain reaches beyond the building, that is the harder half of the work and the half we are built for. The deliverable is the engagement record your assessment needs, and a reading of what the room actually told you.
From €3,950 · Prep, facilitation, synthesis
Most recently delivered for the Center for Development in Central America, whose board Ella Jae Fisher has sat on for fifteen years (which is to say: delivered to people who already knew her well enough to argue back).

Value Chain Stakeholder Engagement
Double materiality and due diligence both require engaging affected stakeholders, not reporting on them. For most Dutch and Belgian companies those stakeholders are in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Central America, or West Africa, and the engagement fails for reasons that have nothing to do with goodwill: almost nobody in the chain knows how to sit in a room with informal-sector workers in another language and come away with something true. That is twenty years of work, in Spanish, with recyclers, municipal officials, and cooperative members at the same table. We design and run the engagement, train your people to keep running it, and produce the record your S2 disclosure needs.

Before the Report
The cheapest time to fix a reporting system is before it exists. We work alongside your team while the instrument is being built: designing what gets asked, piloting it with the people who will actually run it, and revising it on what comes back — which is the only way an instrument gets tuned, because you can only tune one by playing it. Once a system is live it can be recalibrated but not retuned, and that is usually the moment organizations start looking for help. The deliverable is a reporting instrument your operating staff have already run, argued with, and changed, and a record of what they changed and why.

Instrument Review
You already built it. The reporting system is live, the first cycle is done, and something about the numbers does not match what people in the building know. We review the instrument: what it asks, what it cannot ask, who was in the room when it was designed, and what the people who run it have quietly worked around since. The deliverable is a written account of what your system can and cannot register, and what could still be changed without rebuilding it.
Said plainly: this is the remedial version of Before the Report. It is useful, and it is a good deal less useful than being there for the build.

B Corp Certification and Recertification
B Lab’s Standards V2 replaced the Impact Assessment with foundation requirements and seven impact topics, and moved verification to a third party. Recertification against the new standard opened in January 2026, which means every European B Corp is being assessed on a framework nobody has experience with, on a compressed timeline, with real exposure attached to how they describe their status in the meantime.
We prepare organizations for that assessment, with particular depth on the impact topics most advisors staff worst: fair wages, workers, human rights, and collective action. Those are the topics where a practice built inside worker-owned cooperatives and social certification schemes has direct evidence rather than transferable skill.

Embedded Implementation Sprint
An embedded practitioner alongside your teams through a transition: two to three days a week on site, with structured weekly synthesis to leadership. Minimum three months, typically three to six. The deliverable is operational change that persists past the engagement, and documentation that allows your internal teams to sustain it without us.

Strategic Integrity Retainer
Senior advisory for C-suite and board-adjacent leaders: two days a month of structured time plus on-call access. A chief integrity advisor for organizations whose sustainability commitments require ongoing judgment rather than episodic projects. Twelve-month minimum preferred.

After the Report
A half-day masterclass on what your operation is already telling you, and what it takes to hear it. Built for the period after the first report is filed — when the metrics drift, the targets slip, and an initiative that was sound on the slide has not moved the work. It opens with twenty minutes of production work rather than a framework. Participants work their own live initiatives throughout and leave with a diagnosis of one.

Executive Education & Curriculum Design
Specialized training on the operational dimensions of sustainability transitions, designed and delivered for corporate academies, executive programs, and the internal training functions of large consultancies. The teaching record behind it is six cohorts of the SMATE faculty development intensive at Western Washington University, roughly 120 incoming faculty, where the subjects were pedagogy and assessment. Assessment is instrument design: years spent teaching people to build measures that register something real, which is this practice’s argument in a different room.

Writing, and who it has to reach
Most organizations hire a researcher, then hand the findings to a writer. The handoff is where the specifics die. The writer was not in the room, does not know which detail was load-bearing, and produces something fluent that no longer says anything.
We do both halves. That means the same material can be rendered for a board, a funder, a journal, and the people it came from, without any version being a watered-down copy of another. Each audience is a different instrument. The work is making a reading travel without breaking it.
Two things are on offer. Research that arrives already written. And existing research made legible to an audience it was not produced for.
This is not a contradiction of what we say elsewhere about reports. A report filed for compliance and a report the people in it can hand back modified are different objects. We write the second kind.
Sustainability and impact reporting, written from the engagement rather than assembled afterward.
Science and research communication: turning technical or ethnographic material into something a non-specialist audience will finish.
Funding and grant narrative, including the sections where a proposal has to explain why the method is the right one.
Web and organizational copy, where the problem is usually that the organization knows what it does and has never had to say it to a stranger.
Writing-only work is project-priced by deliverable, not by day.
Short form — from €1,500. Web copy, a funder update, a single article, or a short piece of research communication. Includes one source conversation (up to 90 minutes) and one round of revision. Additional rounds or a second stakeholder review are quoted separately.
Report or long-form narrative from existing material — from €4,000. Written from material you already hold. Includes one scoping conversation, one round of revision, and a read-back conversation with the people the material came from. Does not include new fieldwork, new interviews, or data collection.
Writing inside an engagement — no separate charge. Where writing is part of a Reading, Convening, Building, or Multiplying engagement, it is priced as that engagement. The deliverable arrives written. This is not an add-on, because doing both halves is the point.
The nonprofit rate card applies on the same revenue threshold as the rest of the practice.
Fees and terms
All fees are quoted excluding BTW. The figures on this page are starting points. The fixed fee for an engagement is set in the proposal, against a scope we have agreed in writing, so that the number does not move once the work begins.
We keep a second rate card for registered nonprofits and organizations under two million euro in annual revenue. It is not a discount off the corporate price — it is a separate rate, and eligibility is the revenue threshold rather than a mission statement. Ask.
We invoice a deposit on booking and the balance on delivery; longer engagements are billed monthly in advance. Invoices are due within fourteen days.

What we are not selling
Twenty years inside a well-designed, well-funded, genuinely loved project are the source of one specific expertise: which structural features unravel one. That is the expertise on offer: not a formula for success, but a forensic account of how good work comes apart, and what has to be true for it not to.
That forensic account is now a book: The Better Part: The Rise and Unraveling of the World’s First Fair Trade Clothing Network, under review at the University of Minnesota Press.
Reciprocity
A fixed share of gross revenue returns to the communities in Ciudad Sandino where this method was developed. This is not philanthropy attached to the model. It is the model honoring its own account of where the knowledge came from.
The account itself is public. The Better Part documents, in full, where the knowledge came from.
